Workshop for Educators: Teaching Insurance Basics — Free In-Person Session
A free two-hour hands-on workshop for teachers, trainers, and financial educators. Includes free classroom materials based on our plain-language guides, covering how insurance works, reading a policy, and making a claim.
About this workshop
Insurance is one of the most practically important financial topics most people never formally learn. This workshop is designed for those who teach it — or want to start. Whether you work in secondary education, adult learning, financial capability programmes, or corporate onboarding, this session gives you the materials and confidence to cover insurance basics effectively.
The session is hands-on: we run through two lesson formats together, discuss how to handle common student misconceptions, and leave time for you to adapt the materials to your own context. Every attendee takes away a complete set of editable classroom resources covering the four core topics below.

Educator workshop FAQ
Frequently asked questions
- The materials are designed for adults and older secondary students with no prior insurance knowledge — equivalent to our Essentials-level guides. They cover how insurance works, how to read a policy, what exclusions are, and the five stages of a claim. All materials are editable so you can adapt them for your context.
- Core insurance principles — pooling, premiums, exclusions, and claims — are universal. The materials are written to be region-neutral where possible. Specific regulatory examples (such as FCA rules or US state requirements) are clearly labelled as regional and can be replaced with local equivalents. We encourage educators to adapt freely.
- Yes. All classroom materials are provided under a permissive licence for educational and training use. We ask only that you do not resell them as a standalone product and that you credit InsuranceTheGuide as the source. If you plan to use them in a regulated financial education context, check whether any local requirements apply to your specific delivery.
- We plan to run an online version of this workshop later in 2027. Registrants for this in-person session will be notified first. Written versions of all materials are available permanently in our guides library — these can be used directly as classroom readings without attending a session.
