Work out what your cover really means.
Calculators and checklists that use only the figures you enter. Every result shows how it was worked out and what it leaves out.
Yearly cost calculator
Estimate what one policy costs you over a year once your share of claims is added to the premiums.
Example figures are filled in — replace them with your own.

Your total at different claim levels
How this is worked out
Yearly premium = monthly premium × 12. Your share = claims up to the deductible, then your coinsurance percentage of the rest, capped at the out-of-pocket maximum. Total = yearly premium + your share.
What it does not include
Copays, separate deductibles per claim or per person, sub-limits, services outside the network and any costs the policy does not cover.
Results are calculations from the figures you enter. They do not confirm cover, a claim outcome, or that any policy is suitable for you.

Common questions
Tools: frequently asked questions
- No. All calculations run entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing you enter is transmitted, logged or stored. This approach is consistent with the data-minimisation principle in the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Article 5.
- The yearly cost is: (monthly premium × 12) + expected claim share. Your claim share is capped at your out-of-pocket maximum. The formula is shown in full beneath every result. The KFF Health Insurance Calculator methodology uses a similar approach for US health costs.
- It uses two approaches: a needs-based calculation (income replacement + debts + dependant costs) and an income multiple (typically 10–15× annual earnings). The ABI guide to life insurance and the Insurance Information Institute both recommend similar frameworks.
- It calculates how many claim-free years are needed for a higher deductible to recover the saving in premium. Payback years = (higher deductible − lower deductible) ÷ annual premium saving. This is standard actuarial logic described in resources such as the Society of Actuaries consumer education materials.
